The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has held a strategic engagement with key stakeholders to discuss implementation mechanisms for the proposed E10 pilot project under the coordination of its Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning Directorate.
The E10 fuel blend, which consists of 10 per cent bioethanol and 90 per cent conventional petrol, is part of ongoing efforts to promote cleaner energy usage, fuel diversification, and energy transition within Nigeria’s automotive sector.
According to the Authority, the pilot project is being developed in partnership with NNPC Retail Limited, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, United States Grains Council, the National Automotive Design and Development Council, and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.
The Authority disclosed that work on a comprehensive regulatory framework for the E10 fuel blend began in 2024 as part of strategic initiatives targeted at supporting cleaner fuel alternatives and advancing Nigeria’s energy transition goals.
Officials noted that the proposed project is expected to contribute to environmental sustainability, reduce emissions, and encourage the adoption of alternative fuel technologies in the country.
