Adamawa Pilgrims Lament Poor Accommodation, Stranding in Saudi Arabia During Hajj

Some pilgrims from Adamawa State have raised concerns over alleged poor treatment and accommodation challenges during the ongoing Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia, claiming they were left stranded despite paying more than ₦8.3 million each for the pilgrimage.

The affected pilgrims, many of them elderly, alleged that they were forced to sleep outdoors under difficult conditions after arriving in Saudi Arabia due to the unavailability of accommodation arrangements.

According to reports from some of the pilgrims, the situation exposed them to harsh weather and mosquito infestations, raising concerns about their welfare and safety during the spiritual exercise.

The development has sparked criticism and public concern over the management of pilgrimage logistics and welfare arrangements for Nigerian pilgrims.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has also come under scrutiny following allegations of poor coordination, inadequate accommodation planning, and concerns surrounding the handling of pilgrim funds.

Some stakeholders and concerned citizens have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accommodation issues to ensure accountability and improved welfare for future pilgrims.

The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, attracts thousands of Nigerian pilgrims annually, with state pilgrim welfare boards and NAHCON responsible for coordinating travel, accommodation, and welfare services in Saudi Arabia.
