The Wife of the Governor of Niger State, Fatima Mohammed Bago, has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting programmes and partnerships aimed at improving maternal, newborn, and child healthcare services across the state.
Hajiya Fatima Bago made the pledge while receiving the management team of the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), led by its Executive Director, Junaidu Inuwa, during a courtesy visit to her office in Minna.
The delegation was introduced by Aisha Ndaliman, who outlined the purpose of the visit and introduced members of the agency’s management team.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Junaidu Inuwa commended the First Lady for her humanitarian interventions and continued support for maternal and child healthcare initiatives in Niger State.
He disclosed that the agency is preparing for the 2026 Maternal and Child Health Week scheduled to begin on June 1, and appealed for the First Lady’s support and participation during the official flag-off ceremony.
According to him, the programme will include deworming exercises, distribution of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for malnourished children, and community sensitisation campaigns aimed at improving public health awareness.
Dr. Inuwa also appreciated the First Lady for donating more than 3,000 professional kits and identity materials to healthcare workers across the state, describing the intervention as a significant boost to healthcare delivery and staff morale.
He further congratulated her on her recent appointment as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Dieticians ahead of its 56th National Conference scheduled for August 2026.
Responding, Hajiya Fatima Bago emphasised that primary healthcare remains the foundation of quality healthcare delivery and sustainable community wellbeing, especially for women and children.
She commended the agency for its efforts in strengthening healthcare services and assured the management team of her continued support for initiatives targeted at vulnerable communities.
The First Lady stated that although she is not a medical professional, everyone has a role to play in caregiving, humanitarian service, and improving the wellbeing of society.
She also urged healthcare workers, community leaders, and stakeholders to sustain support for programmes that promote healthier families and stronger communities across Niger State.
