2027: APC Chieftain warns against alleged imposition of Ex-Gov. Abubakar on Bauchi residents

By Ahmed Ahmed

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Capt. Bala Jibrin, has cautioned party leaders against what he described as attempts to impose former Governor Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar on the people ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

Speaking during a press conference in Bauchi on Monday, Jibrin alleged that some influential figures within the party, including former Governor Isa Yuguda and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, were being linked to moves aimed at supporting Abubakar’s return to power.

He urged both leaders to distance themselves from any plan that could divide the party and alienate voters, warning that Bauchi residents still remembered the political crises and controversies that characterised the 2015–2019 administration.

Jibrin accused the former governor of poor leadership, insensitivity to workers and pensioners, and failure to prioritise critical sectors such as health, education, agriculture and infrastructure during his tenure.

A major part of his criticism centred on the alleged refusal of the former administration to employ 38 Bauchi indigenes trained as medical doctors in Egypt under a foreign scholarship scheme initiated during the administration of Yuguda.

He claimed the programme cost the state billions of naira but yielded little direct benefit because the graduates were not absorbed into the state health system.

The APC stalwart also referenced the intervention of Babagana Zulum in settling an outstanding tuition balance for one of the affected medical graduates, describing it as an embarrassment to Bauchi State.

He further appealed to APC stakeholders to allow a transparent democratic process in choosing candidates for 2027, insisting that Bauchi voters would resist any attempt to impose what he termed “a rejected candidate” on the state.
