The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Nigeria Section have agreed to deepen collaboration, particularly in the area of capacity building and professional development for engineers across the country.
The agreement emerged during a meeting between the President of the NSE, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and the leadership of the ASCE Nigeria Section at the National Engineering Centre headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Engr. Rabiu welcomed the delegation and praised the achievements of the ASCE Nigeria Section, noting that the engagement created an opportunity to exchange ideas on advancing the engineering profession and strengthening institutional partnerships.
He said the NSE is prioritising strategic collaborations aimed at enhancing training opportunities, particularly for young engineers, as part of efforts to develop a stronger and more competitive engineering workforce.
Rabiu disclosed that his administration places significant importance on empowering young professionals and expressed confidence that closer collaboration with ASCE Nigeria Section would support that objective.
“I am very proud of the achievements all of you have recorded at the American Society of Civil Engineers Nigeria Section. I am delighted to receive you to discuss and exchange ideas on how to move engineering forward,” he said.
The NSE President also highlighted ongoing reforms within the society aimed at strengthening professional standards and ensuring that the conferment of fellowship positions adheres strictly to established guidelines.
Earlier, President of ASCE Nigeria Section, Engr. Austine Odibi, congratulated Rabiu on his emergence as NSE President, describing his leadership as timely for Nigeria’s growing infrastructure and engineering needs.
He commended Rabiu’s commitment to professional excellence, capacity development and sustainable engineering practice, while reaffirming ASCE Nigeria Section’s readiness to support initiatives that advance engineering and infrastructure development in the country.
Odibi noted that the visit was not only to congratulate the NSE President but also to reaffirm the organisation’s commitment to collaboration in areas including mentorship, technical development, research, sustainability and knowledge exchange.
He also invited the NSE President to attend the ASCE Nigeria Section Annual General Conference scheduled for August 26, 2026, at the Radisson Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, with the theme: “Climate Adaptive Cities: Engineering Solutions to Urban Futures.”
The meeting ended with calls for stronger institutional partnerships to promote innovation and contribute to national development through engineering excellence.
