The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed investigators and heads of investigative units across the country to prioritise accurate capture and proper management of suspects’ information as part of efforts to modernise policing and strengthen intelligence-led investigations.
The IGP gave the directive on Tuesday, 10 June 2026, at the opening of a One-Day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitization Workshop organised by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The workshop focused on the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project, a key initiative designed to improve crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations, and inter-agency cooperation.
According to the IGP, modern policing now depends heavily on timely, accurate, and actionable data, stressing that traditional investigative methods alone are no longer sufficient in addressing evolving security challenges.
He explained that the Crime and Incident Database Centre is a strategic national asset that will enhance the ability of the police to track criminal patterns, identify repeat offenders, link cases across jurisdictions, and support more informed operational decisions.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to police reform through technology and innovation, the IGP urged officers to strictly comply with established procedures for capturing suspects’ data across all Commands and Formations nationwide.
He also encouraged participants at the workshop to actively contribute ideas that will improve operational efficiency and strengthen the Force’s overall crime management framework.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to leveraging digital tools, intelligence-led strategies, and modern systems to improve public safety, enhance accountability, and deliver more effective policing services to citizens.
