Institute of Security Nigeria Endorses Book on Buratai’s Military Leadership

By Matthew Eloyi

The Institute of Security Nigeria has formally endorsed the newly published book, “Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era”, describing it as a significant scholarly contribution to Nigeria’s security literature and leadership studies.

In an official statement issued by the Institute, the publication, authored by Dr. Mohammed Abubakar and published by Sprezzatura Publishing Ltd., was commended for providing what the Institute described as a comprehensive assessment of the leadership reforms and institutional transformation undertaken during the tenure of former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), between 2015 and 2021.

According to the Institute, the book offers valuable insights into the evolution of military leadership in Nigeria, particularly in responding to asymmetric security threats.

The statement highlighted the book’s examination of doctrinal adaptation, institutional reforms in training, logistics and command structures, as well as initiatives aimed at improving troop welfare, morale and civil-military relations.

“The strategies documented by Dr. Abubakar establish the Buratai Era as a case study in crisis leadership, institution-building and sustaining morale under pressure,” the Institute stated.

Beyond military operations, the Institute also noted Buratai’s continued public service as Nigeria’s Ambassador and statesman, describing his diplomatic engagements as a continuation of the strategic leadership principles that characterised his military career.

The Institute further praised Buratai’s role as Patron of the organisation, saying his mentorship and strategic guidance have strengthened its research, training and policy advocacy on national security, asymmetric threats and institutional resilience.

Concluding its statement, the Institute commended Dr. Mohammed Abubakar for producing what it described as an important reference work for scholars, policymakers, military professionals and students of leadership.

It reaffirmed its endorsement of the book as “a valuable resource for understanding leadership, reform and resilience in Nigeria’s security sector.”
