The Institute of Security Nigeria has praised former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), CFR, for what it described as transformational leadership that strengthened the Nigerian Army during one of the country’s most challenging security periods.
The commendation came in an official statement accompanying the Institute’s endorsement of the newly released book, “Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era”, authored by Dr. Mohammed Abubakar.
According to the Institute, Buratai’s tenure from 2015 to 2021 was marked by significant reforms that reshaped operational doctrine, enhanced military professionalism and improved institutional capacity in confronting insurgency and other emerging security threats.
The Institute credited the period with reforms in military training, logistics, equipment procurement and command structures, while also recognising efforts to boost troop welfare and morale.
It stated that these initiatives contributed to strengthening operational effectiveness and fostering greater confidence within the armed forces during sustained counter-insurgency operations.

The Institute also praised Buratai’s post-military contributions, noting that his service as Nigeria’s Ambassador reflected continuity in strategic leadership, diplomacy and national service.
As Patron of the Institute of Security Nigeria, Buratai was further commended for providing leadership, mentorship and strategic direction that have supported research, professional development and policy engagement on national security issues.
“The Institute deeply appreciates General Buratai’s patronage, leadership, mentorship and strategic guidance,” the statement noted, adding that his example continues to inspire security professionals, researchers and emerging leaders.
The Institute concluded by reaffirming its commitment to advancing transformative security initiatives under Buratai’s patronage while encouraging wider readership of Dr. Abubakar’s book, which it described as an important contribution to understanding leadership and institutional reform in Nigeria’s security sector.
