2027: Plateau PDP Insists It Will Be on Ballot, Presents Certificates to Candidates

By Comfort Pius

The Plateau State chapter of the Taminu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insisted it would be on the ballot in the 2027 general elections despite the party’s lingering leadership crisis at the national level, as it presented certificates of return to its governorship, state and National Assembly candidates in Jos.

The assurance comes amid uncertainty over the PDP’s national leadership dispute and the legal tussles surrounding the party, which have generated concerns over its preparations for the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the party’s secretariat in Jos, the PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Sunday Garba Biggs, dismissed fears that the internal crisis would affect the party’s participation in the polls, insisting that the Plateau chapter remained united.

“There are no issues within the PDP at the state level. It is a family affair. The only challenge is at the national level, where there appear to be two factions,” Biggs said.

He maintained that the legal processes arising from the leadership dispute had been concluded and expressed confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would implement the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

“All the legal processes have been concluded. We are now waiting for the administrative action of INEC, which is expected to respect and implement the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Once that is done, the PDP will return stronger than ever before,” he stated.

Biggs added that the party had already approached the court for an order of mandamus to compel the electoral commission to act, expressing confidence that INEC, as a federal institution, would comply with the law.

“If INEC fails to obey the judgments, it could amount to a recipe for anarchy,” he said.

The Plateau State Chairman of the party, Chief Raymond Dabo, also expressed optimism that the PDP would reclaim power in the state in 2027.

“I assure you that we will not only be on the ballot, but we will also win from the governorship to the state and National Assembly seats,” Dabo said.

He urged all candidates to remain committed to the party’s manifesto, describing the PDP as a people-oriented political platform dedicated to good governance.

Biggs also appealed for unity within the party, urging successful candidates to reconcile with those who contested against them during the primaries.

“You must be magnanimous in victory and ensure that nobody is left behind. The fact that they did not emerge does not mean they do not have followers.

“They have people who believe in them, and this presents an opportunity to unite everyone as we work towards victory in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
