560 Ugandans Evacuated From South Africa Amid Rising Anti-Immigration Protests

The Ugandan government has evacuated a total of 560 of its citizens from South Africa following escalating anti-illegal immigration protests in parts of the country.

According to the Ugandan High Commission, 255 evacuees arrived safely in Uganda early Sunday, bringing the total number of citizens evacuated since the operation began to 560.

The evacuation followed a precautionary advisory issued by the High Commission on June 1, 2026, urging Ugandans living in South Africa to remain vigilant as anti-migrant demonstrations intensified in several areas.

The situation worsened after a Ugandan national was killed in KwaZulu-Natal Province on June 27. Additional incidents involving Ugandan nationals were also reported in the Western Cape and other provinces, prompting the government to accelerate its evacuation efforts.

Ugandan authorities said they will continue to monitor developments closely while providing assistance to citizens affected by the unrest.
