Nigeria and Algeria have taken steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of culture, arts and the creative economy, with both countries agreeing to establish a joint technical working group to develop a formal framework for collaboration.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, and Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, on the sidelines of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) meetings in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to Musawa, the two ministers agreed to work towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will provide a structured platform for cooperation in heritage preservation, film production, music, and the visual arts.
She explained that the proposed partnership is expected to facilitate the exchange of archaeologists, heritage conservation experts, artists, filmmakers and musicians between both countries, while encouraging institutional collaboration and cultural diplomacy.
The minister noted that the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader agenda of promoting its rich cultural heritage and expanding opportunities for the country’s creative industry through international partnerships.
Musawa added that the collaboration would also foster knowledge sharing, strengthen professional exchanges and create new opportunities for cultural practitioners in both Nigeria and Algeria.
She expressed optimism that the partnership would further deepen the long-standing relationship between the two African nations while supporting the growth of their respective creative and cultural sectors.
