Nigeria Seeks Stronger Global Partnerships to Advance Gender Equality, Women Empowerment

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international partnerships aimed at promoting gender equality, empowering women and girls, strengthening families, and advancing inclusive development through innovation.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, made the commitment during a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women held in Islamabad, Pakistan.

During the engagements, the minister held separate discussions with the President of Egypt’s National Council for Women, Amal Ammar, and Pakistan’s Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights, Saba Sadiq.

The meetings focused on expanding collaboration among OIC member states to promote women’s empowerment, enhance legal protections for women and girls, strengthen family institutions, and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups.

Hajiya Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasised the importance of stronger cooperation among member countries in creating greater opportunities for women through education, economic empowerment, innovation, and inclusive social policies.

She noted that Nigeria remains committed to working with international partners to develop practical solutions that improve the lives of women, families and vulnerable populations while promoting sustainable development.

The bilateral meetings formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation among OIC member states on issues relating to women’s rights, family development, social protection and inclusive growth.
