The National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in accelerating sustainable infrastructure development and strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy.
Dr. Olatunji made the call while delivering a goodwill message at the Nigeria Infrastructure Conference (INFRACON 2026), organised by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).
The conference, themed “Mobilising Private Capital for Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Nigeria,” brought together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and other stakeholders to explore strategies for financing critical infrastructure across the country.
Addressing participants, the NDPC boss said sustainable national development requires the active collaboration of both the public and private sectors, stressing that every stakeholder has a vital role to play in building resilient infrastructure capable of driving economic growth.
He encouraged increased private sector investment in infrastructure projects, describing such partnerships as essential for Nigeria’s long-term development and competitiveness.
Dr. Olatunji also highlighted the existing collaboration between the NDPC and NACCIMA, noting that both organisations had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital ecosystem by ensuring the protection of the personal data of Nigerians and legal residents.
According to him, the NDPC has emerged as one of the continent’s most progressive Data Protection Authorities due to its innovative approach to data governance and regulatory compliance.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to creating a secure digital environment that supports innovation, protects personal information and attracts foreign direct investment in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The conference was attended by several prominent government officials and industry leaders, including the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Chairman of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Dr. Shamsudeen Usman; former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi; and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, among other dignitaries.
