The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commissioned a new Skills Acquisition Centre in Owerri, Imo State, as part of its NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical skills for entrepreneurship, innovation and national industrial development.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Dr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, described skills development as the foundation of industrialisation, stressing that investing in human capital remains critical to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
Dr. Halilu expressed appreciation to Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his support in making the project a reality, while also commending Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi for partnering with NASENI to expand opportunities for young people.
He noted that the newly commissioned centre is designed not only to provide technical and vocational training but also to serve as a platform for nurturing innovation, creating employment and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
According to him, the initiative aligns with NASENI’s commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce capable of driving industrial growth and technological advancement across Nigeria.
Dr. Halilu further explained that through its 3Cs strategy—Creation, Collaboration and Commercialisation—NASENI is strengthening local capacity, encouraging innovation and preparing Nigerian youths to become job creators rather than job seekers.
He expressed confidence that the centre would empower beneficiaries with practical skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s industrialisation agenda while supporting inclusive economic development.
The commissioning of the facility marks another milestone in NASENI’s ongoing efforts to expand technical skills development and foster innovation as key drivers of Nigeria’s industrial future.
