64-Year-Old Man Arrested in Gombe Over Alleged S3xual Abuse of 14-Year-Old Girl

A 64-year-old man, identified as Abubakar Aliyu, has been arrested in Gombe State over the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl at his medicine shop in Arawa Quarters.

Aliyu, who is reportedly a grandfather, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother.

The suspect reportedly admitted to the offence during questioning by security operatives on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CSC Saad Buhari, the suspect alleged that the girl visited his shop at about 11 p.m. to purchase medicine and that the abuse occurred on three occasions.

Aliyu reportedly told investigators that the girl returned home after visiting his shop and was questioned by her mother about her whereabouts.

The suspect allegedly admitted that he gave the girl small amounts of money on some occasions following the abuse.

When questioned about his motive, Aliyu reportedly described his actions as a result of temptation and expressed regret over what had happened.

He was also quoted as saying that his wife had previously advised him to stay away from the girl, but he failed to heed the warning.

The NSCDC is expected to continue investigations into the allegations, while the suspect may face legal proceedings in accordance with Nigeria’s laws protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation.

The case has once again highlighted the importance of protecting children from sexual violence and ensuring that allegations involving minors are promptly investigated and prosecuted.
