Political Thuggery: Nigerian youths urged to rethink, embrace entrepreneurship

Nigerian youths urged to have a rethink against political thuggery and to tap into entrepreneurship opportunities in the country.
The call was made by Sarki Matasa of Adamawa State, Barr. Aliyu Wakili Boya. He warned the youths against being used as political thugs during or after elections.
Boya who made the call during an interview with newsmen in Yola, also advised the youths to key into productive ventures to earn a living.
He further advised them against any form of violence that could hinder growth, adding that the only way youths could progress was to continue to maintain peace.
He also called on the National Assembly to make amendments to the laws such that any politician who is found guilty of engaging youths in thuggery would be disqualified from contesting for any political office.
He further advised Nigerian youths to embrace entrepreneurship to tackle unemployment, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari has put in place several initiatives targeted at creating jobs for the youths and alleviating poverty.
Speaking on the zoning policy in Nigerian democracy, the legal practitioner opined that though zoning is very important to the peaceful co-existence of the country, it compromises competence.
In his words, “Zoning is very important to peaceful co-existence of this country, but that zoning compromises competence. We have somebody who is competent and qualified but cannot contest if the zoning doesn’t favour him. So, because of the zoning, we compromise. At times, we pick somebody from that zone but he is not capable. But notwithstanding, because of the tension and other things in the country, zoning will bring a lot of peace to the country. I am in support of zoning because it will bring a sense of belonging.”
On the General Excellence Award in Leadership recently presented to former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Babangida Saidu Nguroje by Northeast Star Magazine, Boya said he was not surprised that the former lawmaker was found worthy of such an award, describing him as “a powerful personality who believes in the socio-economic freedom of his people and has contributed his quota as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative, as a member representing his constituency at the National Assembly, and also as a businessman and a critical stakeholder in that area.”
Earlier, the Sarki Matasa also commended the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the significant strides he has recorded in virtually all critical sectors of the state. He describes Fintiri as a man who understands the act of governance.
“Even though I am not in PDP, I am an APC man, but if you see something good, you say it. Fintiri is doing very well so far. He started very well and up till now, he is on the right track because if you see what he is putting on the ground and the seriousness of his government, I really appreciate his contribution towards the development of our dear state both at the urban and the rural areas. So, he has achieved a lot,” he said.
