Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is targeting more than two million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The governor stated this during the inauguration of a 525-member State Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council at the Hajiya Hauwa Wali Multipurpose Hall, Government House, Minna, on Monday.
The inauguration also covered the council’s Advisory Committee and Patrons.
Bago said Tinubu deserved a second term to continue implementing his economic policies, which he described as transforming the lives of Nigerians.
He commended the President for providing resources to enable state governors to carry out their responsibilities and urged residents of Niger State to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The governor also called on the people to support his administration’s New Niger Agenda, which he said was aimed at promoting the prosperity of the state.
He expressed confidence in the capacity, integrity and experience of the campaign council members, urging them to mobilise support for the APC at the zonal, local government, ward and polling unit levels to secure victory for the party in the 2027 elections.
Bago also urged the public, particularly media practitioners, to engage in constructive criticism and avoid spreading unverified reports capable of overheating the polity.
In his remarks, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, thanked the governor for including him in the campaign team alongside other members.
He urged Nigerians to assess the Tinubu administration based on its achievements over the past three and a half years, expressing confidence that the APC would campaign on its record.
Idris also called on members of the council to discharge their responsibilities diligently.
The Director-General of the Niger State APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, described the appointments as a call to service and a responsibility to the party and the political future of the state.
“We accept this assignment with humility, loyalty, discipline, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the principles and objectives of our great party, the APC,” Ibeto said.
He stressed that the task required more than titles and ceremonial appearances, noting that it would involve hard work, strategic coordination, effective communication, grassroots engagement, unity of purpose and accountability.
Ibeto assured that the council would work collectively, respect the party’s established structures, maintain harmonious relationships among stakeholders and carry out its duties in line with the directives of the appropriate party organs.
Also speaking, the APC National Vice Chairman for the North Central, Mu’azu Bawa Rijau, said the party would adopt a different approach to the 2027 campaigns and intensify efforts to convince voters to support its candidates across the country.
He said Tinubu and Governor Bago had recorded achievements that required more time to consolidate.
