“We must come together to fight drug abuse – Fintiri

Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Monday says fighting against drug abuse is a collective responsibility of all to rid the country of the menace.

The Governor while speaking during a courtesy visit by the Chairman/Chief Executive of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) at the Council Chamber Government House Yola, restated the unrelenting drive of his administration to the fight against drug abuse.

The Governor while appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing a son of Adamawa to head the agency, appealed to the federal government to adequately fund the agency for it to deliver on its mandate in fighting drug abuse and circulation of illicit substance.

He expressed the confidence that with the experience, knowledge, and capacity of Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retrd), he will relentlessly work towards re-engineering the fight against illicit drugs.

“This administration will support and strengthen the agency within available resources so as to rid Adamawa of the hard drugs menace.

“Drug abuse should be fought vigorously else it rids the society of its good virtues, most vices revolve around drug abuse which informed me upon assumption of office to accord priority to supporting the NDLEA”, Fintiri said.

Earlier, the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) had acknowledged the achievements recorded so far by the Umaru Fintiri led administration especially in Michika where he is a stakeholder and urged him not to relent in making Adamawa great again.

“I’m in the state on a familiarization visit and also to assess the agency’s office and its activities in Adamawa.

“Nigeria is in serious crisis ranging from kidnapping, armed banditry and insurgency behind which is the issue of drug abuse, until authorities get to the bottom of the scourge of drug abuse, no success will be achieved in the fight against criminality”, Marwa said.

The Chairman commended the efforts of the Governor in the fight against the circulation of hard drugs and solicited the establishment of a rehabilitation center in the capital for drug addicts.
