Adamawa Assembly Passes VAPP Law

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed the bill seeking the elimination of violence against persons into law in the state.

Christened Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) the new law forbids all forms of violence against persons both in private and public life and therefore provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders as well.

The House unanimously supported the bill which was presented for it’s reading by the majority leader of the House, Hammantukur Yettisuri.

The Speaker of the House Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the Monday’s plenary session.

The majority leader of the House, Hammantukur Yettisuri of Jada Mbulo constituency presented the bill for the third reading on the floor of the House as required by law during Monday’s plenary session ordered the clerk of the house to prepare a clean copy of the bill for transmission to the state governor for his assent.

Also a bill for the repeal of the Gongola State Hotels and Tourism Board law 1981 and the re-enactment of Adamawa State Hotels and Tourism Board scaled through its first reading at the floor of the house.

The Deputy Speaker of the house and member representing Numan Constituency Pwamakaino Mackwando, presented the bill during Monday’s sitting.

Thereafter Speaker of the house directed the Chairman of House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics, and Privileges to schedule the bill for a second reading on any convenient legislative day.
