Alleged N740 Million Fraud: Trial of Former SDP Chairman Shehu Gabam Continues in Abuja
The trial of former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Shehu Gabam, over allegations of fraudulent conversion of party funds, continued before the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone Two, Abuja.
Gabam is standing trial alongside Chukwuma Ogbonna and Uchechukwu over allegations that they diverted N740 million belonging to the party for personal use, contrary to the party’s financial guidelines.
The defendants were previously expelled from the SDP following allegations relating to the management and use of party funds.
At the resumed hearing, prosecution counsel, Sandra Agba, informed the court that efforts were still ongoing to obtain a key exhibit considered crucial to the prosecution’s case.
She urged the court to grant additional time to enable the prosecution secure the document and present it as part of the evidence in the matter.
The case is one of several legal disputes arising from the leadership crisis that has affected the party in recent years.
The development comes after a Supreme Court judgment delivered in May 2026, which effectively affirmed the leadership of Professor Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party.
The court subsequently adjourned proceedings to a later date for the continuation of trial and further presentation of evidence by the prosecution.
