In a commendable effort to bring medical relief to the less privileged residents of Yobe State, the AMA Foundation has undertaken a significant initiative, providing essential eye surgeries and treatments.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, AMA Foundation Chairman, Abdullahi Musa, emphasised that vulnerable individuals in the state faced a dire need for medical outreach, with limited means to afford treatment in conventional healthcare facilities.

Musa inaugurated the medical outreach on Monday at the Specialists Hospital, Damaturu, expressing concern over the widespread need for medical attention among the less fortunate.

Musa, pleased with the overwhelming response from patients, stated that the primary goal of the outreach was to address the escalating demand for eye care services and promote awareness within communities. He underscored the Foundation’s commitment to enhancing the living conditions of those affected by visual impairments and other ailments.

“The Foundation is blessed, and we feel compelled to share our blessings to improve the living conditions of the people in the state,” Musa declared. He further revealed that the outreach programme had been in operation since 2013, successfully reaching individuals in 26 states across the federation.

According to Musa, the outreach encompassed a range of services, including cataract surgeries, the distribution of eyeglasses, free eye screenings, and educational workshops on vision for vulnerable individuals.

Abdullahi Mohammed Bagare, a member of the Eye Department at the Hospital, emphasised the severity of eye problems in the Northeast, describing it as a significant challenge for medical practitioners. “If you don’t have an eye, automatically you lose part of your independence in communities,” he remarked, stressing the importance of interventions to ensure good and effective eyesight for all.

Nurse Abdullahi expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s impactful contribution to the healthcare sector, stating, “We commend the Foundation for the free healthcare services rendered to the people to improve their living conditions.”

The Foundation’s unwavering dedication to providing essential healthcare services continues to make a positive impact on the lives of the less privileged in Yobe State and beyond.
