In a joint statement released on the last day of 2023, the Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism Insurgency and Terrorism (BRAVE-IT) and Concerned Citizens of the Northeast (CCN) voiced their strong condemnation and deep concern regarding the recent vandalization of electrical installations by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

The organizations expressed their dismay at what they term “cowardly acts” that have not only plunged the region into darkness but also posed a direct threat to stability and development.

The deliberate targeting of essential infrastructure by Boko Haram is seen as a sinister tactic aimed at facilitating the insurgents’ nefarious activities. The joint statement emphasized that these destructive actions not only disrupt the lives of innocent civilians but also have broader implications for the region’s stability.

BRAVE-IT and CCN stand united in denouncing these acts of vandalism and are calling for immediate and decisive measures to address the ongoing threat. The statement urged citizens of the Northeast to rally behind and support military actions aimed at countering the terrorists and safeguarding the region. Solidarity and the provision of vital information are highlighted as crucial elements in combating the menace.

The joint statement commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the leadership of General CG Musa, the service chiefs, and the Borno state government for their commitment and efforts to address the security challenges in the region. The organizations expressed full confidence in their capabilities and pledged their support to ongoing endeavours.

As stakeholders in the peace and stability of not just the Northeast but the entire nation, BRAVE-IT and CCN reiterated their determination to stand against violent extremism and insurgency. They called upon all concerned citizens, organizations, and authorities to work together in solidarity to confront and overcome the threats posed by Boko Haram and other extremist groups.

The statement concluded with an impassioned plea for collective vigilance and unity in pursuit of a secure and prosperous future for the Northeast region and its people.
