Burkina Faso Inaugurates First Gold Refinery to Boost Local Mineral Processing

Burkina Faso has inaugurated its first gold refinery as the military-led government moves to expand local processing of the country’s mineral resources.

The Raffinor-BF refinery has an initial capacity to process up to 164 tonnes of gold annually, with plans to increase its capacity to 515 tonnes in the future.

The government said the facility is part of efforts to strengthen state control over the gold sector, curb illegal gold smuggling and retain a greater share of the value generated from the country’s natural resources.

The refinery is expected to support Burkina Faso’s efforts to develop its mining sector by increasing local processing and improving oversight of gold production and trade.
