Chief of Defence Staff Mourns Late Malam Isa Gusau
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Mallam Isa Gusau, Special Adviser on Public Relations and Strategy to the Borno State Governor.
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to Newsmen in Abuja by Acting Director Defence Information Bringadier General Tukur Gusau.
General Musa described Gusau’s death as a “personal loss” due to their close relationship forged during his time as Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, Borno State.
He praised Gusau’s “warm disposition, sharp mental acuity, and persuasive communication skills,” which he used to strengthen the connection between the Borno State government and its citizens amidst the ongoing crisis.
The CDS specifically highlighted Gusau’s “passion for improved media relations between the military and the good people of Borno state” as a legacy that will not be forgotten.
He further recognized Gusau’s long and dedicated service to two successive Borno State governments, noting that he will “certainly remain a referent point for many years to come.”

General Musa extended his heartfelt condolences to Gusau’s family, friends, and the media community, acknowledging the outpouring of tributes that have followed his passing.
He expressed particular sympathy to Vice President H. E. Kashim Shettima, and Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum, as well as the people of Borno and Zamfara states.
Reflecting on Gusau’s life, General Musa stated, “Humanity has indeed lost a rare gem, but we are consoled by the fact that he lived a highly productive, impactful, and fulfilled life that is worthy of emulation. We pray that God will comfort his family in these trying times.”
