China is rapidly emerging as the global leader in humanoid robotics, with Chinese manufacturers accounting for more than 97 percent of humanoid robot shipments worldwide during the first half of 2026, according to industry data cited by Bloomberg, TechNode and Smart Analytics Global.
Global humanoid robot shipments reportedly reached approximately 19,100 units between January and June 2026, more than three times the number recorded during the same period last year.
Two Chinese robotics companies, Agibot and Unitree, accounted for a significant share of the reported production, highlighting the country’s growing dominance in a technology sector that many experts view as central to the future of automation.
From Laboratories to Real-World Jobs
The rapid increase in production signals a major shift for humanoid robots, which are increasingly moving beyond research laboratories and demonstrations into practical commercial applications.
Some of the machines are already being deployed in factories, warehouses and retail environments, where they can perform repetitive tasks and assist human workers.
The technology could eventually expand into homes and other everyday environments as robots become more capable, affordable and commercially available.
Research firm Smart Analytics Global reportedly projects that annual humanoid robot shipments could reach 500,000 units by 2030, suggesting that the industry could experience another dramatic expansion over the next four years.
China’s Growing Robotics Advantage
China’s rapid progress has been supported by its extensive manufacturing ecosystem, large industrial base and growing investment in artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced manufacturing.
The scale of current production also highlights the intensifying global competition to develop machines capable of operating safely and efficiently alongside humans.
For businesses, humanoid robots could potentially help address labour shortages, improve productivity and automate tasks that are difficult or expensive to perform using conventional industrial robots.
At the same time, the technology raises important questions about employment, safety, regulation, privacy and the future relationship between humans and machines.
What was once largely the subject of science fiction is increasingly becoming an industrial reality.
