COAS Unveils Cutting-Edge Medical Center in Makurdi: A Milestone in Military Healthcare

In order enhancing the welfare of troops and their families, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja inaugurated a state-of-the-art medical facility at the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi.

The ceremony, held at the Joe Akahan Military Cantonment, marked a significant step towards revolutionizing healthcare within the Nigerian Army (NA) ranks.

Speaking during the inauguration, Gen Lagbaja underscored the pivotal role the Makurdi project plays in setting the standard for medical infrastructure across NA installations.

“The facility, boasting off-grid sustainability through a 150KVA solar smart inverter system coupled with a 100KVA diesel-powered generator backup, stands as a beacon of resilience even in adverse weather conditions.

Among the facility’s highlights is its Intensive Care Unit (ICU), equipped with life-saving apparatus crucial for stabilizing critical patients before referral.

Gen Lagbaja emphasized the upgraded labour and maternity wards, heralding a new era in combating maternal and infant mortality within the Cantonment. He assured expectant mothers of a safe and secure environment for childbirth, affirming the facility’s readiness to tackle healthcare challenges head-on.

The General revealed that the Makurdi project serves as a blueprint for similar interventions underway in other brigade medical centers nationwide.

“From Lokoja to Ikeja Cantonment in Lagos and onward to the Gibson Jalo Cantonment in Yola, the NA is steadfast in its mission to modernize healthcare infrastructure, a testament to its commitment to personnel welfare and operational readiness.

He expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for their unwavering support, to the Nigerian Gen Lagbaja highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff in guiding the NA’s welfare initiatives.

He extended appreciation to patriotic Nigerians whose contributions have bolstered morale and uplifted living standards within barracks across the nation.

The Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Major General Hillary Nzan, commended the COAS for his visionary leadership in realizing the medical center’s potential.

He emphasized the facility’s dual role in serving both military personnel and neighboring communities, embodying the NA’s commitment to national development and civilian-military cooperation.

The commissioning of the medical facility in Makurdi stands as a testament to the NA’s unwavering dedication to advancing healthcare standards and bolstering the welfare of its personnel and surrounding communities.

With this milestone achieved, the NA paves the way for a future where health and well-being remain paramount in its mission to safeguard the nation.
