COAS Waidi Shaibu Charges Troops to Maintain Vigilance, Aggressiveness Against Terrorists in North East

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to sustain vigilance, avoid complacency, and maintain an aggressive stance in ongoing operations against terrorists in the North East.

The directive came during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of Joint Task Force North East (JTF NE OPHK) in Maiduguri, where General Shaibu evaluated security conditions, operational effectiveness, and collaboration with key security stakeholders.

Addressing personnel, he commended their bravery and resilience in confronting terrorist elements, stressing the importance of situational awareness, close supervision, robust intelligence gathering, and coordinated operations to deny insurgents freedom of action.

The visit also included a briefing by Theatre Commander JTF NE OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who highlighted current operations, achievements, and challenges in the theatre.

As part of the engagement, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, paid a courtesy call on the COAS. Governor Zulum congratulated General Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff, acknowledging his significant contributions to the reduction of insurgency in the North East. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Army to restore lasting peace and stability.

In response, General Shaibu thanked Governor Zulum for his support and praised the sustained cooperation between OPHK and the state government. He assured that the Nigerian Army remains committed to intensifying efforts to secure Borno State and the broader North East.

Lieutenant General Shaibu’s visit was accompanied by Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, underscoring the importance of the assessment and strategic alignment for ongoing operations.
