The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has issued a stern warning about the evolving security landscape in the country.
The General stated this while speaking during the Second Edition of the Chief of Defence Staff Joint Task Force Commanders Conference at DHQ Main Conference Room, Abuja, emphasising the imperative of unity and cooperation in tackling national security challenges.
Gen. Musa minced no words.
The security landscape was no longer static; it was mutating. From insurgency to cybercrime, separatism to communal conflicts, the threats had woven themselves into the very fabric of Nigeria’s national security. These were not isolated incidents; they were interconnected strands of a complex web.
The general emphasised that a myopic focus on military action alone would fall short. Instead, he advocated for a comprehensive approach that harnessed all elements of national power.
“Intelligence sharing, collaboration, and joint efforts across task forces were paramount. The battle against insecurity required unity, not just within Nigeria’s borders but also in the global context.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the capital, Gen. Musa’s call reverberated. It was a plea for unity, a rallying cry for agencies, communities, and citizens alike.
In the face of mutating threats, Nigeria would adapt, collaborate, and emerge stronger. The Chief of Defence Staff’s words were etched in the annals of history—a reminder that security was not a solitary endeavour but a shared responsibility.
In his remarks, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle, emphasised the critical mission of ensuring lasting peace and stability in Nigeria.
Matawalle underscored the importance of jointness in military operations.
He stressed the need for a cohesive and integrated approach to address the evolving security landscape.
“The constantly revolving dynamics of the security challenges we are facing require corresponding strategies,” he emphasized. “Synergy among our services is paramount.”
Recognising the pivotal role of local communities, the minister highlighted their significance as valuable allies in the fight against terrorism and criminality.
“The locals are not merely bystanders,” he asserted. “We must show them that we are here to protect them.”
Matawalle reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians. The conference also witnessed the unveiling of the book titled “Complex Military Operations: Operation Hadin Kai in Perspective” by Major General Edward S. Buba.
Also speaking, the Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, expressed gratitude to the dedicated forces working tirelessly to maintain peace and security.
He acknowledged the challenges they face and emphasised their courage and bravery in the line of duty.
“We can’t thank you enough for the sacrifices you make. The peace we enjoy and the ability to sleep soundly all rest on your shoulders.
Also speaking, the former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd), emphasised the imperative for thorough analysis and dialogue to protect national security.
Gen. Irabor underscored the need for a reassessment of the military’s role in aiding civil authority, urging careful consideration of the limits of such assistance.
Furthermore, Irabor cautioned against complacency, warning against the erosion of the military’s integrity.
The conference witnessed the unveiling of a book titled “Complex Military Operations: Operation Hadin Kai in Perspective” by Major General Edward S. Buba, adding a scholarly dimension to the proceedings.
