The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, has emphasised Nigeria’s crucial role in shaping Africa’s future, stating that if Nigeria gets it right, the entire continent will follow suit.
Speaking at the OurNigeria Awards 2024 with the theme “Nigeria Rising: Celebrating Excellence, Charting the Future”, Shettima, who was represented by his Special Adviser on General Duties and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, congratulated the awardees and described the event as an excellent initiative.
“We don’t have any other country apart from Nigeria. If Nigeria gets it right, Africa as a whole will get it right. The burden is therefore on Nigeria to make Africa great,” he stated.
Highlighting Nigeria’s growing global influence, the Vice President noted that one in every four black people in the world is Nigerian and projected that within the next 50 years, Nigeria will be the third most populated country in the world.
He also stressed the importance of human capital development in national progress and lauded the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, who was honoured as Governor of the Year/Best Governor in Grassroots Development.
Describing Namadi as an “excellent choice” for the award, Shettima praised the governor’s commitment to grassroots development and his dedication to building on the achievements of his predecessor.
The OurNigeria Awards 2024 celebrated outstanding individuals and institutions making significant contributions to Nigeria’s progress, reinforcing the theme of national excellence and future-focused leadership.
