Dangote Cem organises training for block moulders to prevent building collapses

Dangote Cement Plc has stepped up its training programmes by hosting seminars for block makers in Kano and Katsina states, respectively, as part of its attempts to reduce the number of building collapses in the country.

Mr Johnson Olaniyi, the programme’s coordinator, stated that the workshop would allow block moulders and associated product producers to re-build capacity and adhere to worldwide best practices.

Mr Olaniyi stated that Dangote Cement Plc is committed to reversing the collapse building trend by increasing the capacity of block manufacturers.

Meanwhile, government officials, quality control officials, cement dealers, block producers, and end-users have agreed that Africa’s cement giant produces the highest-quality cement on the continent.

The stakeholders who attended the conference also stated that the ongoing statewide workshop and block manufacturers’ sensitization will aid in reducing the risk of buildings collapsing in the country.

Alhaji Muhammad Garba Kwall, a representative of the Kano State Government, said during the workshop in Kano that Dangote Cement Plc is not only the biggest enterprise in Africa, but also produces the greatest quality.

He described the company as socially responsible, explaining that it is giving back to society by holding a sensitization workshop and developing multiple platforms for training end-users to reduce the country’s high rate of building collapses.

Mr Albert Wilberforce, Regional Director, Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) Kano Directorate, urged block moulders to purchase Dangote Cement Plc’s quality cement, noting that the SON was cooperating with the company to ensure that only quality cement was produced.

In a similar vein, SON’s Kano State Coordinator (II), Engr Hauwa M. Husseini, urged block moulders to follow best practices to prevent the country’s buildings from collapsing.

Also speaking, the Regional Sales Director for Northwest, Aliyu Dan Aliyu urged participants to be ambassadors by telling their customers about the quality of the cement.

In his words, “A customer who wants to build a house doesn’t know the quality or type of cement to use. It is the responsibility of the builder to advise him on the desired cement to use for quality building.

“In this regard, you are the ones responsible to advise them on using Dangote cement because of its quality.

“The artisans and block makers are central to the cement delivery value chain; hence we want to assure you that we will continue to have such interactive sessions, going forward, knowing that it will serve as a feedback mechanism for us in the Dangote Cement Plc.”

Chairman, Kano State block moulders and allied manufacturers, Umar Faruq Musa, spoke on behalf of the participants, expressing optimism that the training will result in better buildings across the country.
