In a determined stride to boost grassroots economic development and empower women, Dangote Cement Plc has disbursed N100,000 each to select female entrepreneurs across its host communities in Gboko, Benue State.

The 2025 Women Empowerment Programme, held Wednesday in Gboko, witnessed the presentation of symbolic cheques to jubilant beneficiaries drawn from Quarry, Tse-Kucha, Amua, Mbazembe, Mbatur, and Pass Brothers communities.

The initiative, facilitated by the company’s Social Performance team, aims to strengthen local businesses and promote financial independence among women.

Group Head, Social Performance, Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola, said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable development and economic inclusion.

“Through this scheme, selected women entrepreneurs will receive ₦100,000 grants each to expand their businesses. It’s a grant not a loan and the goal is to spark lasting economic impact,” he explained.

He emphasized that empowering women at the grassroots helps break the cycle of poverty and enhances the welfare of entire communities.

“When women thrive economically, they invest in their families’ education and health. This empowerment reduces dependency and encourages self-sufficiency,” he noted.

Mr. Olayiwola further revealed that the selection of beneficiaries was done in collaboration with traditional leaders and the Dangote Community Consultative Committee (DCCC) to ensure transparency and community ownership.

Representing the Acting Plant Director, Engr. Munusamy Murugan, during the ceremony, Engr. Tavershima Soom affirmed that the empowerment programme would now be an annual event.

“We are not stopping here. Plans are underway for more initiatives, including youth skill acquisition and agricultural support programmes,” he added.

Also speaking, Head of Social Performance at the Gboko Plant, Mr. Johnson Kor, urged the beneficiaries and community members to be worthy ambassadors of Dangote Cement Plc.

He noted the company’s growing portfolio of community development projects, especially following last year’s historic Community Development Agreement (CDA) with host communities.

Mrs. Mwuese Amou and other Dangote officials joined in the presentation of cheques, while beneficiaries expressed gratitude and shared their plans.

Ruth Ikyowe Tser, a 37-year-old farmer, said she will invest the grant in her cassava business. “This support means everything to me. I can now buy better farming tools and expand my production,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Vishigh Comfort Msurshiona, 39, plans to grow her trade in household commodities.

“I appreciate Dangote Cement. This fund will boost my business and help me support my family,” she said with enthusiasm.

With this latest initiative, Dangote Cement Plc continues to reinforce its position as a catalyst for inclusive growth and community upliftment across Nigeria.
