DHQ Warns Public as Official X Account Suffers Cybersecurity Breach
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has alerted members of the public, the media and other stakeholders to a compromise of its official X (formerly Twitter) account, urging the public to disregard any suspicious or unauthorised content published from the account.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity matter, with appropriate technical measures activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.
According to the DHQ, efforts are currently underway to fully regain control of the affected account.
The Defence Headquarters therefore advised members of the public to exercise caution and disregard any misleading, suspicious or unauthorised messages that may appear on the account until further notice.
The DHQ assured Nigerians and other stakeholders that it remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of information security while ensuring that accurate, timely and credible information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria continues to reach the public.
