EFCC Re-Arraigns Blessing CEO Over Alleged ₦13 Million Fraud Linked to Fake Cancer Claims

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned social media influencer and self-acclaimed relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, popularly known as Blessing CEO, over an alleged ₦13 million fraud before the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The defendant was arraigned on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, before Justice Yelim Bogoro on a fresh six-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and retention of proceeds of crime.

According to the charges filed by the EFCC, the case followed multiple petitions from individuals and organisations, including the Nigeria Cancer Society, who alleged that the defendant solicited and received donations from members of the public after claiming in social media posts that she was battling Stage 4 breast cancer and required financial assistance for treatment.

Investigators alleged that subsequent findings revealed that the medical claims and supporting documents presented to donors were falsified, leading to the donations being classified as proceeds obtained under false pretence.

The EFCC maintained that the total sum involved in the alleged fraud is ₦13,000,000, which was reportedly received from unsuspecting members of the public who acted on the viral online appeals.

The commission, in its filing, stated that the actions of the defendant contravene provisions of Nigeria’s criminal and financial laws relating to fraud and illicit financial gain.

The case has been adjourned for further hearing as proceedings continue.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reiterated its commitment to pursuing financial crimes and protecting the public from fraudulent schemes.
