FCT Police Intensify Crackdown on Vandals, Recover Stolen Public Infrastructure

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its crackdown on vandalism and the theft of public infrastructure, arresting five suspects and recovering several stolen government assets during operations across Abuja.

The recovered items include drainage covers, solar-powered street lights, armoured power cables and communication cables, which the police said had been removed from public infrastructure.

According to the Command, the recovered assets have been handed over to the FCT Administration for immediate reinstallation, in a move aimed at restoring damaged infrastructure and improving public safety.

In a related operation, the FCT Police Command also dismantled an illegal syndicate involved in the production and distribution of unauthorised diplomatic and government vehicle number plates.

Several illegal number plates were confiscated during the operation, while suspects linked to the syndicate were arrested for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, described vandalism as a serious threat to public safety, critical infrastructure and the development of the Federal Capital Territory.

He warned that the Command would not relent in pursuing individuals involved in the criminal network, including those who purchase or facilitate the disposal of stolen public assets.

CP Sanusi assured residents that the police would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations against vandals and other criminal networks operating within the FCT.

He also appealed to residents to support ongoing security efforts by providing credible and timely information to the police, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to protecting public infrastructure and maintaining security across Abuja.
