FG Intensifies Monitoring of Abuja Seismic Activity, Urges Residents to Remain Calm
The Federal Government has stepped up monitoring of recent seismic activity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, directing the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) to provide him with hourly updates for continuous assessment and, where necessary, escalation to relevant government agencies.
The directive follows the minor earth tremor recorded in parts of the FCT at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, by the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency.
In a statement issued by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Lara Owoeye-Wise, Dr. Alake assured residents that proactive measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property.
He urged residents of Abuja to remain calm and continue with their normal daily activities, stressing that there is no cause for panic while government agencies closely monitor the situation.
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring public safety through continuous surveillance, timely information sharing and coordinated response measures as experts assess developments.
