FOU Zone ‘D’ seizes smuggled goods worth N110m in one month

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘D’ of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized contraband goods worth over N110 million between April 20 and May 20, 2025.
The zone reiterated to enforce zero tolerance for smuggling across the zone’s Area of Responsibility (AOR), which spans nine States Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa.
The Comptroller FOU Zone D Abubakar Umar stated this at a news conference on Tuesday in Bauchi.
According to Comptroller Umar, the seized items include, 11,200 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 192 bales and 2 sacks of second-hand clothing
Others are 140 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 125 pairs of desert and jungle boots, 47 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50 kg each) and 9.40kg of pangolin scales
He stated that the total duty paid value of the seizures amounts to N110,499,352, highlighting the effectiveness of increased patrols, intelligence-led operations, and strengthened inter-agency collaboration.
Comptroller Umar also announced that the pangolin scales will be handed over to the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) for appropriate action,
“While the seized PMS will be auctioned, with proceeds remitted to the federation account.
Umar also promised to intensify public sensitization efforts through media engagements and community outreach to combat smuggling.
He expressed deep appreciation to the Comptroller General, Bashir Adeniyi and his management team for their unwavering support.
“We remain resolute in securing the borders and contributing to Nigeria’s economic development,” the Comptroller affirmed.
