Nigeria’s Domestic Gas Supply Rises 6.8% to 2.05 Bcf/d — NUPRC

Nigeria’s average domestic gas delivery has increased by 6.8 per cent, reaching 2.05 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per day in the first half of 2026, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, disclosed the latest figures at a stakeholders’ workshop on the Gas Swap Framework for Domestic Gas Delivery Obligation (DGDO) held in Abuja.

According to the NUPRC, the average domestic gas delivery obligation between January and June 2025 stood at 1.92 Bcf/d, while the corresponding figure for the same period in 2026 rose to 2.05 Bcf/d.

The increase represents an additional 0.13 Bcf/d, translating to approximately 6.8 per cent growth in domestic gas deliveries year-on-year.

Eyesan, who was represented at the workshop by the Executive Commissioner, Development and Production, said the improvement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the domestic gas supply framework and address gaps in gas availability for the Nigerian market.

The workshop focused on the proposed Gas Swap Framework for Domestic Gas Delivery Obligation, aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of domestic gas supply while strengthening compliance with domestic gas delivery obligations.

The NUPRC said continued collaboration among regulators, gas producers, suppliers and other stakeholders remains essential to sustaining the growth in domestic gas deliveries and ensuring adequate gas availability to support Nigeria’s energy and industrial development.
