The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing training, capacity development, research and innovation in Nigeria’s transport sector.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and the Director-General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, is expected to deepen collaboration between the two institutions and improve professional standards across the country’s transport ecosystem.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Corps Marshal described the partnership as a major milestone for Nigeria’s road transport sector, saying it reflects a shared commitment to building a safer, smarter and more efficient transportation system.

He explained that the MoU would strengthen cooperation in specialised training, research, technology, driver education, knowledge exchange and human capital development.

According to him, although both institutions have maintained a productive working relationship over the years, the formal agreement marks the beginning of a new phase of innovation and institutional excellence.

Shehu Mohammed added that the partnership would enhance research capacity, modernise driver training centres, expand ICT-driven learning and produce globally competitive transport professionals capable of addressing emerging road safety and mobility challenges.

He stressed that the MoU is not merely a ceremonial agreement but a practical framework that will support reforms and improve service delivery within Nigeria’s transport sector.

In his remarks, NITT Director-General, Dr. Bayero Farah, commended the FRSC for its commitment throughout the negotiation process, describing the Corps’ leadership as instrumental to the successful signing of the agreement.

He said the partnership would help align transport education, professional training and research in Nigeria with international best practices while producing skilled manpower to support sustainable national development.

The signing ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer of AAI, Ahmed Abdelhafaz, and the Chairman of AAI, Ejike Njeze, alongside other dignitaries, highlighting growing support for Nigeria’s transport sector reforms.
