Gombe produces 30,000 cartons of complementary feeding to avert malnutrition

Gombe State Government has produced and unveiled 30, 000 cartons of complementary feeding for the management of moderately malnourished children and to further prevent malnutrition in the state.

Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya unveiled the food at the opening ceremony of the Science, Technology, Innovation, Agriculture and Mineral Resources Expo 2021 organized by the state’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

According to the Governor, the initiative was aimed at reversing the rating of the state among states with high number of Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) children and high infant and children mortality rates in the country.

The governor added that his administration has reviewed upwards the budgetary allocation for production of complementary feeding by 150 percent, in order to save future of children and youths.

He assured of his administration’s commitment to promoting science and technology, agriculture and mineral resources development in the state, saying science, technology and innovation played a critical role in finding solutions to developmental challenges.

The state’s Commissioner of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Aishatu Umar Maigari, had earlier in her speech commended the governor for supporting the ministry to produce the complementary feeding locally.

She added that the ministry is conducting research into producing high-energy snacks for school children to deliver on their mandate on nutrition.
