Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has called for more prayers and vigilance for the peace and security of Plateau and the unity of Nigeria.

Lalong made the call in a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Simon Macham, at a Mass on Sunday in Shendam.

While encouraging the congregants not to lose faith due to the recent unfortunate events that transpired in the state, the Governor said there was a need for more prayers and vigilance.

“The recent unfortunate developments in the State have been largely contained, but more work needs to be done to prevent reoccurrence.

“Hence the need for prayers and vigilance by all citizens,” he said.

Lalong who reiterated that security was a joint responsibility of everyone, thanked the church for constantly upholding his government in prayers.

“I thank you for consistently upholding the Government in prayers and also offering advice and solutions to the challenges of the State, including insecurity.

“Though the church has contributed a lot in educating citizens and sanitising them toward embracing peace, harmony and showing love to people of various backgrounds.

” Be reminded that security is a joint responsibility which requires the collaboration of citizens, Government and law enforcement agencies who must always unite against criminals,” he said

On his part, Rev. Father Michael Kelong, the Parish Priest, appreciated the Governor’s visit to the Church and promised that the congregation would continue in their prayers and advice for his government.

Similarly, Rev. Bulus Diarshap charged Christians In a Homily, to be alive to their duties as believers by showing compassion, mercy and consideration for one another.

Diarshap said:” lack of adherence to the examples of Jesus Christ to love and respect to the sanctity of lives is responsible for most of the crises in the world”.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that Mr Livinus Kwapfuan, a member of the State House of Assembly representing Shendam constituency, and Mr Alex Naantuam Chairman of Shendam Local Government were among those who accompanied the Governor to the Church service.
