The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Dr Francis Olugbenga Ajala, and his running mate, Faseke Babajimi Oladipo, on the ballot for the Osun State Governorship Election.
INEC said the decision was taken in compliance with a judgment delivered by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on July 22, 2026, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/344/2026, involving the SDP, Dr Ajala and the Commission.
The court directed INEC to recognise, accept, upload, process and publish the name and particulars of Dr Ajala as the SDP candidate for the election.
Consequently, the Commission has commenced the reproduction of the ballot papers and result sheets to reflect the inclusion of the SDP candidate.
With the addition, 15 political parties will now participate in the Osun State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
INEC disclosed that the reproduced ballot papers are expected to arrive in Osun State on Thursday, August 13, after which they will be distributed to Local Government Area offices across the state in accordance with the Commission’s established procedures.
The Commission assured political parties, candidates and voters of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible and transparent election.
The development comes just days before the keenly watched Osun governorship poll, with INEC urging all stakeholders to remain committed to peaceful and orderly participation throughout the electoral process.
