INEC Begins Distribution of Electoral Materials Ahead of Rivers South-East Senatorial Bye-Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials ahead of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District bye-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The distribution exercise took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Port Harcourt, where electoral officials and stakeholders monitored the movement of materials to the affected local government areas.
Speaking during the exercise, the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Johnson Alalibo Senikien, assured voters, political parties, and other stakeholders of the Commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and transparent election.
Senikien stated that INEC had put all necessary arrangements in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the poll, emphasizing that election materials would be delivered promptly to designated locations across the constituency.
According to the Commission, four political parties are participating in the bye-election, which will be conducted across seven local government areas of the senatorial district.
INEC disclosed that a total of 858,573 registered voters are expected to participate in the election across 1,629 polling units.
The bye-election is being held to fill the vacant senatorial seat following the death of the lawmaker who previously represented the district.
The Commission urged eligible voters to come out peacefully on election day and exercise their civic responsibility, while assuring all stakeholders of a level playing field throughout the electoral process.
Security agencies and election observers are also expected to be deployed across the district to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the election.
