JAMB Warns Universities Against Issuing Admission Letters to Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned universities and other tertiary institutions against issuing official admission letters to candidates, insisting that the responsibility rests solely with the board.

The JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, gave the warning while receiving a delegation from a private university in his office.

Aina stated that JAMB is the only body statutorily empowered to issue official admission letters to candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

He expressed concern that candidates often assume admission letters issued directly by individual institutions are genuine, a practice he said could mislead applicants into believing they had secured valid admission.

The registrar urged institutions engaging in the practice to desist and ensure that candidates obtain the appropriate admission documents through JAMB.

He further stressed that only admissions duly processed and recognised through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) would be accepted for official purposes, including mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The board reiterated the importance of complying with established admission procedures to protect candidates from confusion and ensure the validity of admissions into tertiary institutions across the country.
