Kano High Court Sentences Two Young Men to Death for Murder of Newlywed
The Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, has sentenced two young men, Amir Zakariyya and Aliyu Hussaini, to death by hanging for the murder of a newlywed in Kano State.

According to court proceedings, the convicts broke into the residence of the late Yazid Haruna in the Sheka area of Kano at about 2:47 a.m. on June 11, 2025. After stealing two mobile phones from him, they killed him before fleeing the scene.
The victim, Yazid Haruna, had been married for only 10 days at the time of the tragic incident.
Delivering judgment, the court handed down the following sentences:
- Death by hanging for the offence of murder.
- Life imprisonment for armed robbery.
- One year imprisonment for criminal conspiracy.
Reacting to the judgment, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, said the ruling serves as a strong warning to individuals planning to commit crimes in the state. He added that the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to ensuring justice and will not tolerate acts of violence or injustice.
