Kwankwaso Suggests Reevaluation of Emirate Councils, Hints at Sanusi’s Return

By Matthew Eloyi

In a recent development, former Governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has hinted at the potential revisit of the creation of the five emirate councils.

The move follows the controversial decision by the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to split the Kano emirate into five after dethroning the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Despite the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) maintaining silence on Ganduje’s actions, the NNPP’s presidential candidate emphasized that the removal of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was executed with ill intentions.

The call for the removal of the five first-class monarchs, including the two sons of the late Emir, Alh. Ado Bayero, gained momentum after the Supreme Court affirmed the election of Abba Yusuf as Kano governor.

In an interactive session with select broadcast media on Thursday evening, Kwankwaso expressed the NNPP government’s intention to revisit the entire matter and rectify perceived wrongs.

He stated, “Honestly, it is one of the things that nobody has sat with me to discuss so far, but I am sure we are going to sit and see how to go about it. Is it going to be allowed, demolished, corrected, or whatever? It will be revisited, and what’s supposed to be done will be done.”

Highlighting the contentious nature of the decision, Kwankwaso noted, “There were a lot of things, and this was a trap. All these things were not done in good faith or intention. It was brought with some bad intentions which everyone here and our listeners are aware of. Sometimes you come with things that are good and they turn out to be bad, while sometimes you bring things that are bad and they turn out to be good. So, all I know is that I was not consulted as of now, but definitely, we will come to discuss and see what should be done.”

Governor Yusuf, in addition to declaring total loyalty to Kwankwso, openly affirmed that his administration is an extension of Kwankwaso’s government.
