Meta says it has removed more than 3.7 million accounts, pages and groups from Facebook and Instagram as part of a joint operation targeting scam networks operating in West Africa.
In a post on its website on Tuesday, the company said the operation was conducted in collaboration with 14 other technology companies and law enforcement agencies from 10 countries.
The move forms part of efforts to disrupt online scam networks and strengthen the fight against digital fraud across the region.
Further details of the operation are expected to provide more insight into the networks targeted and the measures taken to dismantle their activities.
