NDPC Inaugurates ACTU, Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency, Accountability
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has inaugurated and inducted members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and transparency within the Commission.
The National Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, stated this during the inauguration and induction ceremony held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
In his opening remarks, Olatunji described public service as a position of trust and stressed the need for public servants to uphold honesty, accountability and transparency in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
He highlighted the importance of transparency in preventing corrupt practices and said the NDPC had measures in place to promote integrity within the organisation.
The NDPC boss also expressed the Commission’s readiness to collaborate with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in strengthening efforts to prevent and discourage corruption.
In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by the Director of Systems Study and Review Department, Mr Olusegun Adigun, commended the NDPC management for its commitment to accountability and transparency in carrying out its regulatory mandate.
He described the ACTU as a complementary structure for preventing corrupt practices in government institutions and called on the NDPC management to support the newly inducted members in carrying out their responsibilities effectively.
Responding, Olatunji pledged the Commission’s full support to the newly inducted ACTU members and reiterated the importance of accountability and integrity in the discharge of public duties.
Both the NDPC and ICPC agreed to strengthen collaboration and support each other in fulfilling their respective mandates, particularly in promoting transparency, accountability and the prevention of corrupt practices.
