Nigeria High Commission in Rwanda Commends WOFAN for Promoting Digital Innovation, Women’s Leadership
The Nigeria High Commission in the Republic of Rwanda has commended the Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN) for its transformative contributions to women, youth and farming communities, describing its growing focus on strategic communication, digital innovation, artificial intelligence and peacebuilding as a demonstration of visionary leadership.
The commendation was made during the opening of a three-day international training programme titled “Strategic Communication: Integrating Digital and AI-Driven Innovation for Sustainable Leadership and Peacebuilding – Rwanda as a Case Study for Digital Transformation and Post-Conflict Reconstruction.”
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Acting High Commissioner, Ambassador Ibrahim G. Zanna, the First Secretary, Political Information and Culture, Zerah Yemilo Waminaje, praised WOFAN and its partner, Prospects Development Services (PDS) UK, for organising the training, describing it as a timely initiative addressing critical development challenges across Africa.
She noted that WOFAN’s longstanding work in empowering women, young people and smallholder farmers had positioned the organisation to broaden the development conversation to include strategic communication, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
The High Commission also applauded WOFAN’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership, stressing that sustainable development requires the meaningful participation of women in decision-making and governance.
Participants were encouraged to draw practical lessons from Rwanda’s experience in digital transformation, institutional development and post-conflict reconstruction, and apply them to strengthen leadership, governance and public service delivery in their respective countries.
The Nigerian High Commission reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to initiatives that promote innovation, institutional partnerships and sustainable development, while pledging continued collaboration with WOFAN to strengthen relations and knowledge exchange between Nigeria and Rwanda.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PDS UK, Bayode Tokumbo Hambolu, said the organisation is focused on providing professional development programmes for executives and institutions. He highlighted its commitment to world-class training and noted that its programmes are accredited by the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC).
Speaking on WOFAN’s achievements, the Chairman of its Governing Board, Professor Sani Miko, said the organisation had empowered more than 675,000 women and youth smallholder farmers through various capacity-building initiatives.
He disclosed that WOFAN is now expanding its programmes with the goal of reaching 1.5 million smallholder farmers, while continuing to provide training, information and access to financial opportunities aimed at improving productivity and livelihoods.
In her welcome address, WOFAN Founder and Executive Director, Hajia Dr. Salamatu Garba, described the training as an opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge and draw lessons from Rwanda’s remarkable transformation.
She said Rwanda’s journey from a troubled past to a country recognised for resilience, innovation and development provides valuable lessons for institutions across Africa.
Dr. Garba urged participants to approach the programme with open minds and a commitment to translating the knowledge gained in strategic communication, digital innovation and artificial intelligence into practical solutions that improve leadership, institutional performance and sustainable development.
The participants include academics, media professionals, government executives, legislative staff, school administrators and teachers, who are receiving practical training designed to strengthen their ability to use digital technologies and AI-driven innovation to create meaningful impact within their respective sectors.
