The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader energy transition and automotive development plans, and will also support the rollout of critical EV infrastructure across the country.
Authorities say the project is designed to accelerate electric mobility adoption through complementary measures, including financing programmes and state-led initiatives such as the deployment of electric buses in Lagos.
When fully operational, the EV manufacturing facility is expected to produce up to 300,000 vehicles annually and create approximately 10,000 direct jobs, providing a significant boost to Nigeria’s industrial capacity and employment landscape.
Stakeholders believe the project will position Nigeria as a regional hub for electric vehicle production while contributing to reduced carbon emissions, technology transfer, and local skills development.
The agreement represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s drive toward cleaner transportation, economic diversification, and sustainable growth across Africa.
