Nigeria, UK Renew Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and translating existing agreements into practical outcomes for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The commitment was reiterated during a meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, and the Director-General, Diplomatic Network, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Ms. Christiana Scott, in Abuja.
The discussions focused on consolidating the longstanding relationship between both countries and advancing the implementation of commitments arising from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s State Visit to the United Kingdom.
Both sides acknowledged the importance of existing cooperation frameworks, particularly the Defence and Security Partnership and the Migration, Justice and Home Affairs Dialogue, in strengthening coordination and monitoring progress on shared priorities.
Key areas of cooperation discussed included trade and investment, defence, humanitarian assistance, democratic governance, food security, infrastructure development, electrification, climate action, green finance and agricultural value chains.
The meeting also underscored the need for sustained diplomatic engagement, stronger institutional cooperation and practical partnerships to deliver mutually beneficial results.
Both countries agreed to continue working together to advance shared priorities and deepen bilateral cooperation across areas of common interest.
